Are we alone? Is mankind unique? If aliens exist does that invalidate the bible? This may explain the zeal of those trying to find evidence of extra-terrestrial life. If alien life can be found then it means that we are not unique. If life exists elsewhere can it be used to support the Theory of Evolution and the seemingly desperate desire to prove the non-existence of God. The bible is pretty much silent on whether extra terrestrial life exists but the tenor of the scriptures is that the earth is special and unique. It's notable that Genesis chapter 1 verse 16 includes the phrase "He made the stars also." as though the entire universe was simply an aside. So what is the Christian explanation? Why are people fascinated by the possibility of aliens? It's the same explanation that accounts for many things in this world. People are aware of a void in their lives - God wants to fill it with the knowledge of Jesus and the experience of new birth and new life; the Devil wants to fill it with anything else. If an obsession with aliens will keep a person away from considering Christ - then that will do as well as any other. It's ironic that this strategy works best if there is the hope of finding alien life and not the actuality of it. | |||||
